Studying topology in BergenTopology - the mathematics of spaces - is not touched on properly in the first years of study at UiB. If you are curious as to what important branch of mathematics you are missing out on, please do not hesitate to contact one of us. For an informal discussion you may also consult What is topology? by Neil Strickland, or "Rom"forskning - det finnes kulere rom enn verdensrommet and Sfærespekteret by Dundas. The courses General Topology (MAT242) and Manifolds (MAT243) are both supposed to be possible points of entry for budding topologists, as well as others who plan to study one of the many fields using concepts and results from topology. One of these courses must be taken at the very latest in the third year of study. The course Algebraic Topology (MAT341) is designed as a course for master students in pure mathematics, and is an introduction to algebraic topology which is the field of research currently pursued in topology in Bergen. Further study is conducted in reading courses in cooperation with your supervisor. For a vague idea of possible master's projects, you may consult the following list (in Norwegian only) or come and talk with one of us. Course material
