On thew 26th
of June, 1998 the university director Kåre Rommetveit pushed the
button and ignited the first blast on the building site of the Building
for Basic Biological Research (BBBR). After about a year with excavation
the work on the building could start, and during the spring of 2003
the users of the building can move in. In the BBBR the three preclinical
institutes at the Medical Faculty:
The Department
of Physiology, The
Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and The
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology will get new
and modern facilities. In addition The
Department of Biological and Medical Psychology, The
Medical Library Dept. Haukeland Hospital and The
Medical Library for the Preclinical Division will be located
in the building. The total area of the BBBR is approximately 30
000 m², and the budget is some 900 million NOK. Statsbygg is
responsible for the project while the architecture is done by the
firm Narud, Stokke and Wiig in Oslo.
