Gard Steiro: When is science "news"?

Hovedinnhold

Invitation to open lecture in BIO300 Friday Sept 28: Gard Steiro: When is science "news"?

Gard Steiro is the News Editor for Bergens Tidende, the second largest newspaper in Norway and the largest in Bergen.  The newspaper has had several attempts at publishing a semi-regular science column and has tried using UiBs own scientists as writers. While the business of newspaper publishing has been changing rapidly, so has the business of spreading science. What is BTs view on their experience with scientists? Is there any chance that stories infused with science can form a part of the daily information diet of the local population? How do we as scientists get our messages across? What does a newsworthy story look like? Should we accept it in any form?

Please join us for a lecture followed by possibly lively debate.
