Head of Department
Welcome to the Department of Biomedicine, University of Bergen!
Our department is one of the largest at the university. It has an international scientific staff and runs research at a high international level on a number of research fields within the main areas molecular biology, cell biology and physiology.
The main research focus coming years will be translational biomedical science focusing cancer and cancer treatment, neurology and circulation, with a molecular and cell biological approach, and using proteomic, imaging, MRI and nano-science technology and methods.
By means of recruitment and seeking extended project collaboration with highly competitive international and national research groups and institutions, the aim is to further improve the research quality. A position in the international forefront is the ambition on the department's main scientific target areas.
Department teaching is research-based. In addition to educating good candidates, recruitment and build-up of young and talented scientists is an important aim. At present more than 100 PhD-students and post docs get their training at the department.
In 2005 the department turnover was around 100 mill. Norwegian kroner. 40 percent came from external sources. The scientific efforts resulted in 86 publications in international scientific journals.
Whether you are a student, scientist, journalist or just a random reader of this web-page, it is my wish that contact with our staff of capable scientists, teachers, technicians and students, and the competence they represent will contribute to curiosity, knowledge, creativity and collaboration to the benefit of both you, science and society at large!
Kind regards,
Rolf K. Reed
