Master in Medical Biology
The Master's Programme in Medical Biology is administrated by the Department of Biomedicine.
The specializations Medical Cell Biology and Biomedical Image Sciences are offered to international students, with courses and curriculum in English. Self-financing degree students may apply.
Applicants for the Quota Scheme with education from Makerere University, Uganda, can apply for the specialization in Medical Cell Biology.
Start-up Date: Each August
Specialization: Medical Cell Biology
The program gives the students a comprehensive understanding of medical cell biology and related techniques and trains the student in experimental lab work and scientific thinking. Focus is on the relationship between fundamental research and the development of new treatment strategies. Depending on the student's interests she/he will be part of a research group that conducts basic research or translational research. Students will be trained in an active academic environment through daily contact with researchers and other students in the laboratory.
Specialization: Biomedical Image Sciences
The program in Biomedical Image Sciences is primarily intended for students with a BSc degree in the exact sciences (physics, informatics, mathematics, statistics) who wants to acquire competence in biomedicine and work on biomedical imaging applications. The curriculum differs from a Master's programme in mathematics or in physics in that it focuses on theory and applications in biology and medicine more than the development of new technology, generic methods and algorithms per se that might have potentially a large range of applications.
