Centre for Cancer Biomarkers (CCB) awarded SFF-status
Professor Lars A. Akslen at The Gade Institute has been spearheading the SFF-application within cancer research.
SFF (Senter for Fremragende Forskning – Norwegian Centre of Excellence) has been awarded three research groups at the University of Bergen. The main purpose of the newly established centre within cancer research will be to study the cancer microenvironment, and to understand how cancer tumors originate and spread. Through this, the centre hopes to develop improved diagnostics and more accurate treatment methods for each individual patient.
The research itself will primarily focus on the hunt for so-called cancer biomarkers. In many ways, these markers make up the “finger prints” of the different tumors, and by identifying these markers it will be possible to give better diagnoses and develop more efficient medicines.
