Project title:
North of Babel: The first century of Old Norse vernacular literature

Project Summary:

My project North of Babel has two main goals. The first is to make a
study of the reception of Latin literature in Norway and Iceland
in the first period after the introduction of the book culture through the
study of vernacular translations of such texts. The time frame is
c1150­1250. The second is a more detailed study of the attitudes to the
vernacular in relation to Latin that can be traced in Old Norse thought and
writings.
