Mag.art. in 1983 at the Institute of Nordic Archaeology, University of Oslo. Dr. philos. 2003, University of Oslo.

Prizes:
Trondheim kommunes kulturpris 1994; Adresseavisens Hedersrose 1995; Svein Myrbergets Minnepris 1995.

Previous positions:
Researcher position at Riksantikvaren – The Directorate for Cultural Heritage 1984-1994, and a researcher at Norwegian institute for Cultural Heritage Research, NIKU, 1994-2003, both based in Trondheim. A period of this, in 1990, was spent as a researcher on a Viking Age project at Bergen Museum, University of Bergen. Post-doctoral fellowship at Centre for Medieval Studies (CMS), University of Bergen 2003-2006. 

Main fields of interest:
Historical archaeology, research methods in archaeology, analysing large scale excavations, history of Trondheim, bishop’s palace, urbanisation, Christianisation.

Major research projects:
1984-1990: Stratigraphic and functional analyses of Folkebibliotekstomten in Trondheim, main occupation period from late 10th to middle of 14th century.1990: Analyses and reconstruction of Ytre Moa, Viking Age farm. 1991-2003: Director of the Excavations in the Archbishop’s Palace’ in Trondheim, main occupation period from c.1150 - 1983. 2003-2006: Christianisation of South and Central Norway c.800-1150.
I have presented more than 70 papers, mostly as invited speaker, at national and international conferences, and for the Universities in Bergen, Trondheim, Oslo in Norway, in Lund, Midthögskolan and Göteborg in Sweden, Århus in Denmark, Budapest in Hungary, the Norwegian institute in Rome, and for the EUROMINT project in Porto, Portugal and Kutna Hora, Czech Republic. I have been a member of several exam committees for mag.art, cand philol., dr.philos. and BA- levels by the Universities in Tromsø, Trondheim and Oslo. I have been a co-organiser of several national and international conferences and meetings. Among others I have been a member the steering committee for NAM (Organisation for Norwegian archaeologists) 1989-92; member of the steering committee for KAN (Women in Norwegian Archaeology) 1987-88;: Correspondent member of the EU-project EUROMINT 1999 – 2002; member of The Museum organisation’s Advisory Committee (Faglig råd) 2000-2003; member of the Advisory Committee for the Kaupang project, University of Oslo 2001-2002; research coordinator for strategic institute program research by NIKU 2000-2003; member of the steering committee for Department of History and Classical Studies, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) 2002-2005; member of the advisory committee for the Centre for Medieval studies, NTNU, 2002-2003; member of the Advisory Committee for the Gråfjell project, University of Oslo, from 2003.  Member of the editorial board for the Senter for Middelalderstudier Skrifter at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim.
