Upon the completion of the course the student should be able to:
- give an account of political processes and administration in different cultures
- give an account of how relations between politics and society impact on the distribution of goods and burdens in society, as well as the content of public policies.
- explain how the political system in developing countries in a selective manner influences forms of economic production, political participation and the relation to other countries and organisations

Aim and Content
The course focuses on how political processes affect the distribution of goods and burdons in society, and how the political system influences patterns of economic production, political participation and the relation to minorities, other countries and multilateral organizations. The focus will be on states in Africa , Asia and Latin - America.
The course aims to give students an introduction to politics and administration in different countries, with a particular emphasis on states in the south. The focus is on relation between politics and society, with an emphasis on the shaping, content and impact of public policies.
Central to the course is training in analyzing political regimes, and to learn to understand, through comparisons, why they may vary due to a variety of state/society relations.
The theoretical approach is mostly historical-institutional, with an emphasis on cross-national comparisons.
Learning Outcomes

10-15 lectures and 8-12 seminars / workshops.
Students can choose if they wish to follow Norwegian or English seminars / workshops.
