Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:
- provide an overview of recent developments in organization theory and public policy research and how these two can be combined.
- adopt an independent and critical attitude towards the course material through a teaching method that combines lectures and seminars. The latter implies writing, presentation, and discussion of essays.
- discuss and apply course materials at exams and in the master thesis.

Access to the Course Unit
The course is open for students who have been accepted to the Master´s program at the Department of Administration and Organization Theory.
Aim and Content
The aim of the seminar is to help the students understand and analyze the relation between organisation and public policy in a critical and independent manner. The seminar provides a review of selected approaches and discourses in each of theses subjects' fields, emphasizing relations between the two. The course provides empirically based knowledge on power relations in and between organizations in different sectors of society.
The content of the seminar is built around three interrelated topics:
- The history of the department subject field, central themes, theoretical foundations and classical contributions.
- The development of organization theory, the institutionalization of different schools of thought, controversies and discourses.
- Different traditions and approaches to the study of public policy, organization and power.
Learning Outcomes

Seminars and lectures
Compulsory Requirements
Presentation of a short essay on at curriculum based problem. In addition you are required to comment on a presentation from another student.
Assessment methods
School exam (4 hours) and take home exam (7 days), (½ + ½).

Grading A-F
Course Unit Evaluation
The course is evaluated every third year.
