Upon completion of the course BIO291 students will be able to:

  • Introduce and explain key physiological processes in fish
  • Illustrate physiological processes and adaptations, and present examples
  • Discuss how various physiological processes are regulated
  • Explain how different physiological processes are adapted to the environment that the fish live in

Aim and Content

The course focuses on physiological processes in fish including adaptations to the environment with regard to temperature, respiration, circulation, acid-base balance, osmoregulation and ionic regulation, smoltification, regulation of buoyancy, sensory physiology, movements, digestion, energetic and growth, and reproduction. The practical lab exercises cover oxygen uptake measurements, osmotic characteristics of smoltification, experiments in endocrinology and measurements of oocyte hydration.

Compulsory parts of Bachelor in Biology

Compulsory Requirements

Approved laboratory course included journal and semniars. Approved compulsary assignments are valid in 6 semesters.

Assessment methods

Oral examination (70%) and approved course and written assignments (30%)

Grading Scale

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
