Aim and Content
The course consists of field trips in the Bergen region (2 days) and a field course in southern Norwegian mouintain areas (5 days). Some lab teaching connected to the field trips.
The main aim is to give students a practical introduction in the art of identification of plant species by means of artificial keys and descriptions in currently available floras. The course will emphasise the characters useful for separating different species of vascular cryptogams, conifers, and angiosperms occurring in Norway. Also exercises will aim at gaining experience in identifying plants collected in their native habitats. Instructions in the basics on how to collect and preserve (press) specimens to document finds for scientific purposes.

Recommended previous knowledge
This course is recommended for students in the Master's programme in Biology - biodiversity, evolution and ecology and students should therefore have a Bachelor in biology including good background in botanics.
Compulsory Requirements
Field course and laboratory course. Approved mandatory activities are valid for 6 semesters.
