Pre-requirements
Biology, molecular biology or equivalent on bachelor level, preferably completed with a degree.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the course the student should be able to:
Knowledge
- Define central concepts within tumor biology.
- Describe the mechanisms transforming a normal cell to a cancer cell.
Skills and competences
- Explain how ordinary cancer treatment works on a cellular/molecular level, and why the effects of such therapies tend to decrease over time.

Aim and Content
Provide knowledge about fundamental processes leading to cancer development, how cancer cells differ from their normal counterparts, molecular peculiarities of cancer cells leading to their successful survival in the body, and the molecular and cellular mechanisms of cancer therapy. Knowledge of cell death (apoptosis) mechanisms is pivotal for understanding cancer development and treatment, and will be stressed.
