Human physiology, minimum 200 level.

Learning Outcomes

After completion of the course, the student should be able to:

Knowledge

  • Have a broad understanding of the theoretical background and be able to discuss normal and patophysiological conditions in the cardiovascular system at a higher scientific level.
  • Discuss and evaluate basic principles versus new knowledge in cardiovascular physiology.

Skills and competences

  • Understand the background for clinical cardiovascular challenges.

Aim and Content

Aim is to give students a theoretical background in heart physiology.

The focus of the subject are:

  1. ion-channels, pumps & exchangers
  2. receptors & intracellular signaling
  3. regulation of coronary flow
  4. normal & ischemic metabolism
  5. mechanical activity of the left ventricle under normal/pathological conditions

Teaching Methods

Weekly seminars/2 hrs pr week/18 weeks in total = 36 hrs.

Compulsory Requirements

Weekly seminars with active student participation.

Assessment methods

Oral group exam. The student group will be tested in the learning outcomes, where the examinator ensures individual assessment. All students are asked individual questions, with the possibility of fellow students to elaborate the answer.
