The course is open to all students admitted to the Master´s program in Digital Culture at UiB.
Aim and Content
The course deals with key theories from the field of digital culture. Theories are the analytical tools that scientist use to observe, interpret and describe the world. They set the research object in an academic context and make it available for analysis and interpretation. The goal of DIKULT302 is to give students a deeper understanding of how the relationship between people, technology and society have been theorised within the field. Through lectures and independent work, the students should learn to evaluate and use the central theories in their Master's thesis.
We recommend that DIKULT302 is taken in the first semester of the Master program (Fall) together with DIKULT301: Methods and master's project in Digital Culture.

Recommended previous knowledge
Recommended prior courses include DIKULT104 or DIKULT206/DIKULT251.
Teaching Methods
The instruction is given in the form of lectures and seminars with a meeting of three hours each week over thirteen weeks. It is expected that students take active part in class discussion.
If less than five students are registered to a course, the department might reduce the teaching, please see the department´s guidelines regarding this on "My page". Regarding a course where this is a possibility the students get information about this at the beginning of the semester, and before the deadline regarding semesterregistration 1.February/1.September.
Compulsory Requirements
Weekly mandatory assignments will be given in connection with the seminar. These assignments may include written products and individual or joint presentations at the seminar.
In order to take the exam was required that the student has participated in at least 75 percent of the teaching and in the activities of the teaching covers. Course participation is approved by the course leader.

Take-home exam (7 days).
