Learning Outcomes
The aim of ENG101 is to improve students' theoretical knowledge of English phonetics and grammar, as well as their practical ability to use the language and to express themselves correctly in English, both orally and in writing.
ENG101 comprises phonetics and grammar.
The course in phonetics provides a practical and theoretical introduction to aspects of English phonetics. The course covers the basic principles for the description and classification of English sounds, with particular emphasis on either British English (Received Pronunciation) or American English (General American). The course focuses on the pronunciation of individual words as well as connected speech.
The grammar course provides a practical and theoretical introduction to English grammar. The course covers topics such as sentence analysis, word classes, concord and article use, and focuses on differences between English and Norwegian
