Learning Outcomes
After completion of the course the student should:
- have acquired insight into a specially focused philosophical theme in the work of selected philosophers.
- have gained an overview of different ways of posing problems and presenting arguments within a specific field or theme in the work of the chosen philosopher(s).
- be able to treat a given philosophical problem in an independent manner within a specified time.
- quickly be able to draw relevant points from a wide range of literature in order effectively to deal with a specified task.

Aim and Content
The course is meant to provide students with an opportunity of specializing in a specific field, theme or author(s) in philosophy.
The Department will offer such specialized courses in philosophy each semester.
Specialized subjects taught in English autumn 2012:
- Introduction to Wittgenstein
- Kripkes "Naming" and "Necessity"

Recommended previous knowledge
Examen philosophicum and Academic Writing.

Teaching Methods
Lectures: 2 hours per week for 13 weeks, a total of 26 hours.
The number of gatherings might get reduced if the number of students attending the course is less than 4. In this case the students will be compensated with individual or group tutoring.
Compulsory Requirements
Submission of two three-page papers.
Submission dates will be decided by the Department.
The handing in of a reading list no later than the 15th of October in the autumn semester, and the 15th of April in the spring semester.
Assessment methods
Six-hour sit-in written examination.
The compulsory requirements have to be formally approved before taking the sit-in examination.
The compulsory requirements have to be formally satisfied in a semester in which there is teaching in the relevant course in order to take the examination during a semester in which there is no teaching in that course.
