Aim and Content

Students will be presented with the distinctiveness of human geography and the human geographical perspective on the world. The course will provide theoretical and methodological insights by drawing on theories and cases from human geographical research. This involves a basic introduction in the history of the discipline and its different approaches. The relationship between global processes of change and local conditions is presented as a pillar of the human geographical perspective, and the students will be exposed to theories, debates and research on geographical scale. In this way, the students will become familiar with current processes of change at different scales and the forces behind changes in place, related to planning, resources and energy, environment and the climate, economic development, innovation and production of meaning. Through examples given in lectures, students will also be introduced to contemporary challenges for vital rural places, cities and regions.
