Aim and Content
The topic gives a broad introduction in marine monitoring and forecasting with focus on model- and observation systems that are in practical use today. The topic discusses archiving, access, and distribution of data and particular focus is put on evaluation of precision in measured and modelled information. The teaching contains lectures, where the students are supervised in use of in-situ and satellite based observations and modelled data (e.g. available on web) and mandatory visits to institutions and companies which contribute to development and/or are involved in operational oceanography in Bergen. Working with the term paper is a considerable part of the course and can vary from analysing environmental data (in-situ, satellite and/or modelled based) to instrument testing.
