Pre-requirements
Basic principles in seismology and seismic reflection data, as well as advanced courses in seismics and Fourier analysis.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the course GEOV274 the student should be able to
- calculate seismic parameters from seismic data
- reveal basic relations between reservoir parameters and seismic parameters
- describe relations between the rock composition (lithology) and seismic parameters
- perform simple rock physics modelling
- derive the most important quantities used in seismic reservoir characterization
- calculate effects on seismic data due to alterations in pressure and fluid composition in the reservoir
- document the result of the analyses in a scientific report

Aim and Content
The course outlines the main properties of various reservoir rocks, and how these can be determined from seismic data. Specific attention is paid on how to include rock physics in seismic reservoir characterization of fields in the exploration and production phase. Issues related to seismic monitoring of CO2 sequestration is also outlined.
