Aim and Content

This course provides an introduction to the principles of radiogenic and stable isotope geochemistry, and to the application of isotopes in geological studies. The radiogenic isotopes (e.g., Rb/Sr, Sm/Nd and U-Th-Pb) and their geological applications will be reviewed in the first part of the course. The second part of the course deals with the stable isotopes (such as H, O, C, N). The factors that control the distribution and fractionation of stable isotopes in natural systems and their application in paleoceanography and paleoclimatology will also be reviewed.

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
