Pre-requirements

Students admitted to a Master`s degree Programme may join this course. A good Bachelor`s degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Health Sciences or Natural Sciences. Good knowledge of English.

Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the course, the students shall

- have knowledge about different types of bioaersols and their sources

- recognize bioaerosol expected to be most relevant for various work places

- be able to select appropriate assessment methods for different classes of bioaerosols

- have knowledge about potential health effects caused by the different types of bioaerosols

- have knowledge on exposure prevention

- have knowledge about work-related allergy; sources, agents, mechanisms

- have knowledge about health effects associated with poor indoor air quality

- understand the concept of multiple chemical sensitivity

- be aware of psychosocial aspects in the working environment

- have knowledge about thermal factors and indoor air contaminants

- be able to plan and carry out an indoor air assessment in non-industrial work places

- have knowledge about the principles for ventilation in non-industrial buildings

- have knowledge about how to improve the indoor air quality

- understand the thermoregulatory processes in humans

- understand the mechanisms for heat transport

- be able to make a plan for the control of heat stress and cold climate for selected occupations

Aim and Content

Aim:

To introduce the basic concepts of climatic conditions and exposure to biological factors in the working place.

 

Contents:

- Sources of bioaerosols (bacteria, viruses, moulds, cell fragments)

- Exposure to biological factors in different work environments

- Health effects of bioaerosols

- Monitoring biological factors - preventive measures

- Parameters of indoor air; air contaminants and thermal factors

- Ventilation in office buildings

- Health and non-industrial indoor air quality

- Monitoring and assessment of indoor air

- Improvement of indoor air quality

- Multiple chemical sensitivity

- Work physiology and heat stress

- Cold work environment
