Course offered (semester)
Autumn and spring
Aim and Content
The subject covers obstetrics (including pregnancy, labour and delivery) and gynaecology (women's diseases). Obstetrics and gynaecology cover specifically female biology, which is naturally divided into two main areas: firstly, the reproductive organs and, secondly, the physiology and pathology of the reproductive process, sexual function, fertility, infertility and contraception. As a result of practical clinical circumstances, larger departments have established sections for special fields such as gynaecological oncology, endocrinology, foetal medicine, ultrasound and assisted reproduction, and the students will rotate through such units to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills, i.e.: Physiology, pathology, clinics and treatment in connection with pregnancy, foetal development, delivery and the postpartum period, with particular emphasis on pregnancy diagnostics and pregnancy alterations, diseases caused by pregnancy, the normal mechanism of labour and deviations from it, antenatal care, prenatal diagnostics, monitoring of labour, obstetric analgesia and anaesthesia, normal puerperal development, important complications and post-partum care. Endocrine and clinical aspects of puberty, sexual maturity and menopause. Infections, tumours and other diseases of the female genitalia. Dysfunctions, infertility, gynaecological urology, abortion and sterilisation.
