Aim and Content
Paediatrics concerns both health and disease in children. We focus on growth and development of the individual child, and diseases that may affect the child in this process. In order to identify deviations from the normal, diagnosis, treatment and care for the sick child must be based on solid knowledge of the normal development, and on understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms. Paediatrics is an age-limited discipline where a holistic approach to the child is emphasised as well as the understanding that children's health is closely related to growth and physical, mental and cognitive development, and interaction with family and community.
Contents:
Neonatal medicine
- Growth and development
- Nutrition
- Physical activity
- Preventive and social paediatrics
- Diseases in the nervous, endocrine and haematological system, oncology, infectious diseases and immune defects, respiratory diseases, allergic disorders, joint and bone diseases, cardiac diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, diseases of the kidneys, urinary tract and genitals, and skin diseases in children
- Habilitation
- Child health from a global perspective
- Ethics in the treatment of children
The learning process in paediatrics should focus on children and young people's health and morbidity. Systematic approach to the diagnostic process is the foundation of all good clinical practice and is given great emphasis in all teaching
