Aim and Content
The Norwegian courses do not give credits for applicants with Norwegian as their first Language.
The target audience for NOR-U01 are exchange students who will be in Norway for one semester, and who do not plan to take multiple Norwegian courses.
You cannot proceed to NOR-U2 after NOR-U01
This beginner level course focuses on topics and vocabulary dealing with one´s own person,
Study food, clothing, accommodation, weather, recreational activities and other everyday situations and events. The courses focuses to a large extent on oral language skills. Students will practice a good Norwegian pronouncement and be able to have simple conversations in Norwegian. The most important rules with respect to form and sentence structure are covered in the course.

Teaching Methods
The course totals 52 hours of instruction, lectures are held twice a week in two hour periods.It is expected that students are prepared and participate actively in lessons. Students will submit at least five written assignments during the course.
Compulsory Requirements
Attendance is mandatory. Participants who are absent more than 25% of the time, will not be permitted to take the exam.
Assessment methods
The course concludes with an examination that includes an oral and a written part in Norwegian bokmål. The oral part of the exam lasts about 10 minutes and consists of a conversation between examiner and one or two students. The written part of the exam lasts three hours and covers listening, reading and writing skills. Both the oral and the written exams are graded as pass/fail.One must pass both the written and oral part of the examination in order to pass the course.
Pass/fail is the overall grade.
It is not possible to register for an exam or lectures on the same subject more than three (3) times.

The reading list is announced at the start of the semester.
Students will also need a dictionary. A primer in Norwegian or a compendium of texts at the beginners level will be used.

The evaluation may be conducted in writing or as discussion with the responsible instructor.
