The course is open for students admitted to the University of Bergen.
Aim and Content
The main objective of Education in a Changing Society is to enable students to understand the function and role of educational institutions in a contemporary context. The course provides different perspectives of the relation between educational institutions and society, both historical and sociological, and an important theme is how societal changes influence both educational policy and educational practice locally as well as in national and global settings. The course also aims to enable the students to develop an understanding of education as a means of citizenship and democracy.

Teaching Methods
Lectures and web-based seminars. The students are encouraged to organize student controlled discussion groups.
Compulsory Requirements
Compulsory written exercises will be given throughout the semester.
Assessment methods
The examination form is a guided academic essay, 3000 words.
Grading Scale
Examination results are given according to the grading scale A-F.

- Critical theory of society and education
- Norwegian history of education
- Characteristics of today¿s changes of society and the consequences for the educational system
- Multiculturalism
- Web societies

Course Unit Evaluation
The students will evaluate the course according to the Faculty of Psychology´s procedures for evaluation of teaching. The evaluation is web-based.
