Aim and Content
Students may write an in-depth study (semester project paper) within each of the five basic areas (developmental psychology, biological and medical psychology, cognitive psychology, personality psychology and social psychology). The papers are to consider a theme linked to the basic subject in question, but they can focus the students' own area of interest. The method and theme can be chosen freely by the students, provided the choice gets the approval of the teaching staff in the basic area in question. The project paper is to be written in the form of an article drawn up in accordance with the APA standard. It may be semi-empirical, theoretical or in review form. If it is empirical, it may be based on qualitative or quantitative data. The paper is to show clearly what is original work, what is the processed work of others and what is the students' own use of material from others. All documentation must have clear references. All direct quotations must be in inverted commas, with references to works cited and page numbers. The students are required to work on the project paper independently, under limited guidance. Up to 3 students may work together on the same paper. The students' choice of theme for the project paper must be approved by the teaching personnel within one month after the start of the semester. The work done on the project paper is supposed to be the equivalent of 6 ECTS, and the length must not exceed 15 pages (6000 words), excluding tables and references.
The project papers cannot be replaced by unpaid work as a scientific assistant, and the students cannot demand to work as scientific assistants. The project paper is assessed according to the alphabetical grading scale from A to F while work done as a scientific assistant is assessed as meriting Pass or Fail.

Compulsory Requirements
Participation at the semester thesis conference, with oral presentation of the thesis. Full day participation required. Students are also required to take part as experimental participants in at least 2 laboratory experiments in cognitive psychology conducted by class colleagues who are running an experiment for their project. The experiments should not exceed a maximum of 1.5 hours duration each.
Assessment methods
The project paper is assessed according to the alphabetical grading scale from A to F. Work done as a scientific assistant is assessed as meriting Pass or Fail.
