Pre-requirements
No formal requirements, but all teaching is in Spanish and requires knowledge corresponding to a beginner's course in Spanish or a knowledge of Spanish at language level 2 from Upper Secondary School.
Learning Outcomes
The students will gain knowledge of central issues and problems in Spanish language, as well as cultivate their speech, through studying grammar and practical use of language. The students will be able to relate their academic knowledge to practical and theoretical problems. They will be able to continue to develop their knowledge, competence and understanding through further study and work life.

The course is open to all with admission to the University of Bergen.
Aim and Content
SPLA101 includes grammar and practical use of language. The study of grammar gives a thorough introduction to modern Spanish language and in practical use of language.

Subject Overlap
Teaching Methods
Instruction in grammar is given as lectures, usually two hours per week for twelve weeks. Central parts of the curriculum will be taught. Practical exercises in grammar are tied to the lectures.
Usually group teaching is used in addition, with focus on practical Spanish two hours per week for six weeks (three groups) if resources are available.
Compulsory Requirements
There are three compulsory assignments that must be completed by the deadline for each activity. The activities will be assessed as approved/not approved. According to the University of Bergen`s degree- and academic regulations the students are given one new attempt per assignment if one or more of them were not approved the first time. All three assignments must be approved before the students can be assessed in the course.
Assessment methods
The assessment method is a six hour school exam with questions from the curriculum.
In order to take the exam the compulsory assignments mentioned under Compulsory Requirements must be approved in the same semester.
The students may use monolingual and bilingual (for example Norwegian-Spanish/Spanish-Spanish) dictionaries approved by the Department during all exam days. The students themselves must bring the dictionaries to the exams and be aware of and follow the rules regarding controls of the dictionaries, for example glue/staple together the grammar part.
Grading Scale
The grading scale A-F is used, where F is a fail.
