Teaching Methods
Instruction is organized as series of lectures, where the texts in the curriculum will be commented on. Both the historical literary context and the formal and thematic qualities of the texts will be discussed. In addition, the students will work in smaller groups with language, content and other aspects of the texts in the curriculum.
Lectures are given six hours per week for 12 weeks. In addition, there is usually group teaching that focuses on textual analysis and writing competence two hours per week for four weeks, if resources are available.
Compulsory Requirements
There are three compulsory assignments: a short summary of a literary text, an introduction to a literature essay and a commentary to a text. These must be completed by the deadline for each activity. The assessment method is approved/not approved.
According to the University of Bergen¿s degree- and academic regulations the students are given one new attempt per assignment if one or more of them were not approved the first time. All three activities must be approved before the students can be assessed in the course.
Assessment methods
The assessment method is a 6-hour school exam written in Spanish. The grade is based on both content and language.
The students may use monolingual and bilingual (for example Norwegian-Spanish/Spanish-Spanish) dictionaries approved by the Department during all exam days. The students themselves must bring the dictionaries to the exams and be aware of and follow the rules regarding controls of the dictionaries, for example glue/staple together the grammar part.ictionaries.
Grading Scale
The grading scale A-F is used, where F is a fail.
Reading List
The curriculum (about 700 pages) is compiled from a selection of novels, short stories and poems from the time after Latin America¿s independence. In addition there is a historical literary work of reference. This may be compiled in one work. The chosen curriculum will have a close to equal distribution of male and female authors.
