No formal requirements, but all teaching will be in Spanish and requires knowledge corresponding to beginner¿s course in Spanish or a Spanish at language level 2 from Upper Secondary School.

The students will gain insight into central themes, problems and happenings within the subject area Latin American history. Further, the students will analyze professional material and draw their own conclusions. They will further develop the ability to comprehend and use modern Spanish orally and in writing, and they will be able to continue developing their knowledge, competence and understanding through further study and work life.

Access to the Course Unit
The course is open to all with admission to the University of Bergen. Persons without admission can apply to the Division of Student Affairs to take a specific exam.
Aim and Content
The course gives the students an outline of important features of development and events in Latin American history, in order to know the background of the Latin America we see today.

Subject Overlap
Teaching Methods
Central parts of the curriculum will mainly be taught as outlining lectures. Understand the impact the historical features of developments and events have had on the development in Latin America is especially important. In total four hours of lecture each week will be given for 12 weeks.
Also, group teaching two hours per week is usually given for 12 weeks, where discussions of central problems can take place.

Assessment methods
The Assessment method in the course is divided in two parts:
A 7 day take home exam (about 2000 words) written in Spanish. The students can choose from a selection of subjects prepared by the teachers. The grade is based on both content and language.
At the end of the semester there is an oral exam where the candidate will do a presentation (8-10 minutes) of a subject from a different part of the curriculum than the take home exam. The subject for the presentation will be given by the teachers. The candidate will also be questioned on the rest of the curriculum.
The take home exam must be approved before it is possible to take the oral exam, and both the take home exam and the oral exam must be approved before credits are granted for the course. Each of the two parts of the assessment counts 50% of the final grade. It is possible to take the oral exam up to two semesters after passing the home exam.
Grading Scale
The grading scale A-F is used, where F is a fail.
Reading List
The curriculum (about 500 pages) can include outlining works, articles and original texts.
