Pre-requirements
No formal requirements, but all teaching is in Spanish and requires a knowledge of Spanish corresponding to 30 credits at 100-level in Spanish language and Latin American studies.
Learning Outcomes
The students will gain knowledge about some central subjects and problems in the Spanish speaking societies and cultures in Latin America. They will analyze academic material and draw their own conclusions. In addition, they will develop their ability to comprehend and use modern Spanish orally and in writing.

The course is open to all with admission to the University of Bergen.
Aim and Content
The course gives insight into three to four different areas of culture and society in the Spanish speaking countries in Latin America. Which areas will be examined will be decided by the course teacher and will change from year to year.

Subject Overlap
Teaching Methods
Instruction is based on lectures, group teaching and conversation, and therefore assumes that the students actively participate in the offered teaching. Lectures will be given two hours per week for 12 weeks, and group seminars two hours per week for 12 weeks, usually organized in one bulk.
Compulsory Requirements
Students must show up for compulsory supervision in connection with the writing of the semester assignment.
Assessment methods
The assessment method is a semester assignment of approximately 2500 words written in Spanish. The students can choose the subject for their assignment from a list prepared by the course teacher. The grade is based on both content and language.
Grading Scale
The grading scale A-F is used, where F is a fail.
Reading List
The curriculum (about 600 pages) can be compiled from outlining works, articles and other academic material, and will vary according to the focus of the course.
