Teaching Methods

Instruction includes lectures, seminars and group work.

Grammar lectures will be given two hours per week for 12 weeks, lectures in El español de América two hours per week for 12 weeks and group work two hours per week for six weeks. The students should actively participate in the seminars and the group work, such as written assignments and oral presentations. The schedule is the same as SPLA201.

Compulsory Requirements

The students will receive guidance and help with revisions (supervision) of the assignment mentioned under Assessment methods during the semester, according to set deadlines. The deadlines are final and the students are obligated to remain aware of these. It is also compulsory for the students to show up for appointments. The student and supervisor will agree on two appointments for guidance and help with revisions. Guidance and help with revisions is not given by e-mail or phone.

Assessment methods

A supervised assignment and oral exam. The assignment will be of about 12 standard pages (double spacing and size 12 Times New Roman or similar font) as well as bibliography, written in Spanish. The oral exam is a conversation in Spanish about the curriculum from SPLA251 that was not written about in the assignment (Grammar/El español de América). Ther may also be questions from the assignment as well. The conversation will be about 20 minutes long.

Two students can choose to write one assignment together, and the assignment will in that case be 15 (double spacing and size 12 Times New Roman or similar font) as well as bibliography, written in Spanish. The students will receive the same grade on the assignment.

The supervised assignment and the oral part of the exam both count for 50%. Failure to pass one of these parts will constitute a fail in SPLA251. Both parts of the exam must be passed in the same semester.

The assessment method supervised assignment with an oral exam fulfills the requirement that an independent work must be part of the Bachelor¿s Degree. Those who take two Spanish courses at 200-level in the same semester, can only choose one courses with a 250-code.

Grading Scale

The grading scale A-F is used, where F is a fail.
