Learning Outcomes
Going from the texts they have read, the students will gain knowledge of the main features of the development of German literature after about 1750, as well as basic competence in literary analysis through varied written and oral exercises and develop a deep and independent relation with the material.

The course is open to all with admission to the University of Bergen.
Aim and Content
The course includes a general introduction to the history of German literature from the 18th century up to today and an introduction to literary analysis based on a selection of literary works or extracts from works (epic, drama and poetry).
TYS114 is a compulsory part of the specialization in German.

Recommended previous knowledge
It is advised that the student has passed TYS112 or corresponding.
Teaching Methods
- The teaching consists of lectures/seminars and group teaching that requires active participation from the students.
- Three double sessions
- 12 weeks
Compulsory Requirements
Supervision of assignment.
Assessment methods
The exam is a 4-hour written school exam (no aid allowed) and a written supervised assignment of 1500 words, not including table of contents, problem statement and bibliography.
Both exam parts must be passed in the same semester.
One joint grade will be given. When determining the grade the school exam counts for 60% and the supervised assignment 40%.
There is an exam every semester.
Grading Scale
The grading scale A-F is used, where F is a fail.
Reading List
The curriculum includes a selection of literary works, a short introduction to literary analysis and literary history from the 18th century up to today.
