Learning Outcomes

After completing the course the students will

- have insight into the selected texts on the curriculum and be able to relate these thematically to the literary- and cultural historical context they are in

- have basic knowledge of central literary terms and use these in independent analyses of literary texts

- be able to express themselves adequately in German, in writing and orally, about problems tied to the curriculum.

The course is open to all with admission to the University of Bergen.

Aim and Content

The course will give increased insight to partial aspects of German literature and the relevant historical context. TYS202 is a compulsory part of the specialization in German for students writing their Bachelor's paper in language (TYS251).

Teaching Methods

  • The teaching will include lectures/seminars.
  • Two double sessions
  • 12 weeks

Compulsory Requirements

During the semester the students will do an oral presentation with written notes of 2-3 pages.

The students will choose the topic with the course teacher.

The presentation including notes must be approved by the course teacher before it is possible to take the exam.

Assessment methods

The exam is a 6-hour written school exam (no aid allowed).

 

There is an exam every semester.

Grading Scale

The grading scale A-F is used, where F is a fail.

Reading List

The curriculum includes about 1000 pages, divided into two areas which can be limited in different ways, for example by epoch, genre, authorship, topic, etc. Each area will consist of at least three works, alternatively extracts from works. A selection of poetry can replace one or several works. In addition to this curriculum, the students will also read about 100 pages of secondary literature.
