Admission to Bachelor's degree programmes
Admission to undergraduate studies in Norway is coordinated through The Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service (NUCAS). Section for Academic Administration is responsible for admission to regular undergraduate study programmes at the University of Bergen.
If you want to apply for admission to undergraduate degree programmes, you must apply through the centralised application processing centre NUCAS, in Norwegian called Samordna opptak.
The University of Bergen does not offer any Bachelor's degree programmes taught in English. Admission to undergratudate studies require proficiency in Norwegian. The University of Bergen offers a variation of master's degree programmes in english. Who may apply
The NUCAS admission system is primarily for Norwegian citizens and others with a permanent or renewable residence permit. A norwegian ID-number is required to apply.
In order to be eligible for admission to undergraduate studies at the University of Bergen applicants must meet the minimum entrance requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification in Norway (generell studiekompetanse). All applicants are required to document sufficient proficiency in both Norwegian and English language in order to meet the general entrance requirements.
NOKUT, The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, has compiled a list of general entrance requirements for admission to Norwegian universities/higher education for applicants with qualifications from abroad. We refer to this list as the GSU list. Application form
The application form can be found online between 1 February and 15 April every year. Please note that the the application form is in Norwegian only.
The application deadline is 1 March for applicants with foreign education.
Language requirements
Norwegian
The undergraduate studies offered at the University of Bergen are taught in Norwegian, and applicants must therefore document proficiency in this language. This can be done in one of the following ways:
- Norwegian (as a second language) in upper secondary school, 3rd year with the mark 2 or better. For information about how to qualify this way, please see vilbli.no
- The Norwegian Language Test – Advanced Level (Bergenstesten), written examination with the mark "bestått" (passed) from the autumn 2009 or a score of minimum 450 points (tests taken spring 2009 and earlier). For information about this test, please see the web site of Folkeuniversitetet. Level 3 in the Introductory Programme for Foreign Students at the Universities. Please note that to be admitted to the courses in Norwegian language for students at UiB you already need to be a student here.
- One Year Programme in Norwegian Language and Civilization for Foreign Students. Please note that the University of Bergen does not offer such programmes.
