For decades, the Nordplus programme has been a bridge between Bergen and partner institutions in neighbouring countries for both student and teacher exchange. At present, UiB is connected to virtually every higher education institution in the Nordic and Baltic countries through 20 different Nordplus networks.

The UiB is also a member of the Nordlys network, which is an interdisciplinary Nordplus network connecting all the major universities in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, the Faeroe Islands and Norway. The Nordlys network is the largest and most comprehensive of all the Nordplus networks, and its main activity is student exchange in areas where no disciplinary network is available.
