The Quota Scheme is a funding scheme offered by the Norwegian government to students from developing countries and countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The objective of the Quota Scheme is to provide relevant education that will benefit the students' home countries when they return. The Quota Scheme also promotes the internationalisation of higher education in Norway.

The University of Bergen currently has 154 study places at Master's and PhD level financed by the Quota Scheme. This scholarship scheme is an important tool in the University of Bergen's internationalisation efforts, particularly in relation to collaboration with countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. The quota students are recruited through active academic collaboration. In order to be considered for admission, applicants should therefore be affiliated to institutions with a formal, active collaboration agreement with UiB. We currently collaborate with around 120 eligible institutions. A summary of this specific institutional cooperation can be found on our web pages.

Admission to the Quota Scheme is limited and therefore extremely competitive. About 50-60 new students are admitted each academic year. Normally, only applicants with excellent grades will be considered; a good command of the English language is also required since the study programmes are taught in English.

We offer about 40 different Master's programmes that are taught in English for which applicants to the Quota Scheme are eligible. Information about admission.
