FIRE SAFETY INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES
TIPS FOR YOUR HOME, WORKPLACE AND PLACE OF STUDY
CHECK AND FAMILIARISE YOURSELF WITH:
• Smoke detectors in the home. Test them monthly and change the batteries annually.
• The location of the extinguishing equipment and how it works
• The nearest fire alarm
• Escape routes in the building
• Fire instructions and evacuation plans posted in the buildings
PREVENT FIRE AND THE SPREAD OF FIRE:
• Report any circumstances that could reduce fire safety
• Never place wedges, trash cans etc. in doorways to keep the doors open
• Respect the ban on smoking in UiB's buildings
• Always use a time switch on coffee machines and electric kettles
• Use the main switch, and not the remote control, to turn off your TV set when you go to bed or leave the building
• Be careful when using candles
IN THE EVENT OF FIRE AND FIRE ALARM
• If you discover a fire, notify the fire service by calling 110
• Leave the building and proceed to the mustering point
• Do not use the lifts
• Notify and help others
• Close any gas cocks and cylinder valves
• If possible, try to extinguish the fire
