In order to be accepted to the course there is a requirement of an average result of C or better after the completion of all mandatory coursework at the end of the first year (SANT303, SANT304, SANT307 and SANT309)

The course is available to students at the master's programme in anthropology of development.
Mål og innhald
In the third semester, the student will conduct fieldwork and collect data on a chosen research topic. The duration of the fieldwork is one full semester. After 2 to 3 months in the field, the student shall submit a progress report to his/her supervisor. In the report, he/she will present the preliminary findings and suggest theoretical approaches to deal with them. The purpose of the progress report is to help the student sharpen the research focus and identify the topics that remain to be investigated during the last part of the fieldwork. The supervisor shall send a written comment of the report within two weeks of its reception.
The course presumes independent work, advised by the supervisor, aiming to prepare the student for the subsequent writing up of the MPHIL thesis based on the student´s fieldwork.

Independent application of fieldwork methods under supervision; written reporting.
The duration of the fieldwork is one full semester
Obligatoriske arbeidskrav
The student must undertake independent fieldwork for a duration of one full semester.
Submission of at least one progress report during fieldwork (obligatory, part of exam).
