Objectives and Content

This course builds on the basic visualization course (INF212/INF252). The contents of this course are oriented at most recent research topics of the visualization group at UiB.This course covers mathematical foundations of visualization and interactive visual analysis of data from different application domains, mainly medicine and biology.

Learning Outcomes

The teaching outcome of the INF359 course is to make students familiar with the advanced principles that are behind rendering of images from mathematical, perceptual and computational perspective and introduce interaction metaphors for visualization. These principles are demonstrated on application in various fields of science, mainly biology and medicine. Visualization principles are further showcased and exercised through paper reading and programming assignments. This has a side effect that the students also become proficient in reading scientific publications. Part of the course are lab exercises where students learn programming techniques for interactive visualization using graphics hardware.

Forms of Assessment

Passed compulsory exercises and oral examination.(Compulsory exercises can be graded contributing to the final grade.)

No aids allowd for oral exams. Examination support materials for Written exam: All calculators, according to model listed in faculty regulations.

Grading Scale

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
