Use of Norwegian at UiB

In addition to the internal language policy goals, the university is also bound by the statutory rules in the Language Act concerning use of Bokmål and Nynorsk online, in print and in social media.

Main content

The Language Act
The Language Act requires that at least 25 per cent of the texts that the University publishes online and in print are in Nynorsk, and that everyone who writes to the University of Bergen receives a reply in the same form of Norwegian. The Nynorsk requirement does not apply to internal texts addressed to employees.

Guidelines on use of Bokmål and Nynorsk

Reporting
Central government agencies below ministry level must report once a year to the Norwegian Language Council on their use of Bokmål and Nynorsk.
