Victor Melezhik, a Professor II at CGB recently visited the Centre and presented his work with the Fennoscandia Arctic Russia - Drilling Early Earth Project (FARDEEP).

The project is now in Phase III: research and analysis of 3650m of drill core for insights into geological events in the time period 2.5 - 2.0 billion years ago. The pieces of core have all been carefully archived (Phase II) and are ready for more detailed study. According to Melezhik, the archive work has already revealed some unexpected and interesting results. Geology labs around the world are invited to submit projects to analyse this unique geological record.
