Melodic Labyrinths

In Birtwistle’s masterpiece Theseus Game Ariadne’s thread is transformed into an unending melody that shimmers in a variety of colours as it lures us through a musical labyrinth.

Melodies marked a new direction in the music of Ligeti. Through the compact clouds of sound that characterize his earlier music, we can now glimpse threads of melody that interweave in fascinating ways.

BIT20 Ensemble will also perform works by composition students from the Grieg Academy at this concert. The students have had the opportunity to try out sketches and ideas, discuss different approaches and techniques with the musicians. Brand-new works from exciting, young composers!
