Museum visit

The small castle at Laksevåg

This old summer house is considered to be a masterpiece of Rococo architecture made of wood in Norway.

The old, wooden, whitepainted main building at Damsgaard hovedgård.

Damsgaard Country Mansion is part of the Bymuseet (the City Museum of Bergen). The museum opens for the season the 1st of June, so we will be among the first people to visit it after a long quiet winter.

At the museum, we can enjoy a guided tour in English. The guide will tell us about the history of the house and show us the different rooms. We will get an insight into the daily life of the wealthy citizens of Bergen a few hundred years ago. The gardens at Damsgaard are recreated as they may have been in the 1780s when the house was built. After the guided tour you can enjoy the gardens some more if you like.

Getting there:
- If you want to walk to the museum, it should take approx. 30 minutes from the University museum. If you want to walk together with us, please meet up in front of the Arts and Humanities Library at Haakon Sheteligs plass 7 before 16:20.

- If you prefer to get there by bus, you can take bus no.16 or 17 from Olav Kyrres gate, stop B, at 16:30,16:40, 16:50. The 4th stop will be Damsgård hovedgård (estimated to take 7 minutes).

There are several busses going back to the city, approx. every 10 minutes.
Or feel free to join us for the walk back to the university, where we will pass by a few of the other interesting sights at Laksevåg.
