Practical information

All you need to know about the University of Bergen's Staff Mobility Week!

Main content

Accompanying persons

We have unfortunately not planned a program for accompanying persons. It is however possible for accompanying persons to attend some of the social activities arranged during SMW-16. Some of these activities may be associated with a extra fee. For an overview of which social activities accompanying persons may join, please have a look at the overview attached at the bottom of the page. Accompanying persons will have to give notice on which activities they would like to attend before SMW starts. All participants will receive a questionnair were this is adressed. For the rest of the time we recommend accompanying persons to enjoy Bergen's attractions on their own. See "About Bergen" for more information.

Acommodation

We have reserved rooms in Hotel Augustin for the duration of the week. If you are accepted for participation in UiB Staff Mobility Week you will receive information on how to reserve one of these rooms for yourself.  Mind that the participants are themselves responsible for covering the costs of the room. An additional person in the room will cost an additional 200 Norwegian kroner per day. Participants may of course book other accommodation if they please.

Cost/funding

There is no fee for participating in the Staff Mobility Week. Participants are however responsible for covering their own accommodation, travel and most meals during the week. Some meals are however included. Every day you get a complementary lunch, and Thursday night dinner is also paid by the university (but drinks afterwards are not).

Please note: Erasmus funding for participating in this program might be available through your home institution. Please contact your own Institutional Erasmus Coordinator.

Language

In order to participate in our Staff Mobility Week, you need to be able to communicate well in English. We expect that the participants are willing and able to participate in debates and in some cases also hold a presentation about their work and experience.

Climate and what to bring

One of the interesting things about living in Bergen is that you never know what weather the next day will bring. In May, Bergen often has temperatures around 20° C, but it could also be rain and 5° C.

For an idea of what clothes to bring, check out the weather forcast at www.yr.no.

In addition we ask all participants to bring sensible shoes. We will invite you on a hike Monday evening which requires flat, comfortable shoes. The cobblestones that cover a big part of the city does not invite for high heels either.
