Changes in the use of video conferencing at UiB

UiB now offers the system «Vidyo» for videoconferencing. This provides new opportunities, but also involves a number of changes to the existing video conference rooms.

UiB has three dedicated video conferencing rooms that are open for booking and use for all employees:

  • Sydnesplassen 12/13
  • Stein Rokkans hus (Nygårdsgt. 5)
  • Realfagbygget (Allegt. 41, combined video meeting and long distance learning room)

From April 14th you must use Outlook/Exchange to book these rooms (They can also be found by searching “video"). Those who have already booked meetings after 14th April will be contacted directly.

The web service tms.uib.no / videoconference.uib.no will not work for booking after these changes.

The video conference rooms will otherwise mainly remain the way they were before, but with one important change: There will be a new way to receive calls (one must actively choose to call the recipient by choosing “receive calls” otherwise you will not be connected.

This change will also be introduced for video conference rooms at departments and faculties. We will contact the individual departments about this.

UiB does NOT recommend the purchase of new video conference rooms directly from the supplier, but to instead contact the IT department for procurement of VidyRoom which is a better and more affordable solution.

Users of video conferencing are recommended to install the software “Vidyo” on their computers (available in Software Center). It can be used to participate in video conferences, and with video conference rooms.

Please see https://it.uib.no/en/Vidyo for more information.
