The center will be working on new cancer biomarkers and targeted therapy, and will particularly focus on mechanisms that show how cancer cells are affected by the microenvironment in the tumors, and what significance this has for cancer proliferation and poor prognosis.

Center manager is Lars A. Akslen, Department of Clinical Medicine.

The opening

CCBIO had its opening symposium May 30-31 2013. The symposium focused both on the center and its research fields and goals and featured highly renowned researchers as speakers, such as Bruce Zetter of Harvard Medical School, Mina Bissell of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and John Cairns of London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
