I am an experimental particle physicist. Since 1980, when I was a summer student at CERN, my research activities have mainly been linked to experiments at CERN. I have been a member of the ATLAS collaboration since 1995. Our group at the University of Bergen took part in the construction of the ATLAS-SCT, (The SemiConductor Tracker) I  have also been involved in a project for developing ultrathin silicon beam detectors for monitoring intense X-rays for medical use (with SINTEF MiNaLab). ATLAS physics interests have mainly been within searches for, now studies of, the Higgs boson. 

We have participated in the development of radiation hard '3D' silicon sensors in collaboration with SINTEF MiNaLab. The technology is now mature. Now we take an active part in ATLAS upgrade, with participation in the construction of the ITk (Inner Tracker). We are developing infrastructure at our department in order to test and quality assure silicon pixel sensors  (in '3D' and 'planar' design), and take part in  sensor module production for the ITk, with responsibilities primarily within testing and quality control.   

Proposed research areas for an MSc Thesis:

1) ATLAS Upgrade (ITk): Develop test systems and perform tests of  silicon pixel sensors, and sensor modules

2) within ATLAS physics analysis: Mostly Higgs physics in final states containing tau leptons.
