    • Politics of natural resources and energy

    • Energy transitions and climate change - particularly in relation to cities
    • Relationships between natural resources (particularly oil and gas) and society.
    • Civil society politics in the context of natural resources
    • Scales of natural resource governance

I am Research Professor and currently a Fellow of the Bergen Research Foundation. Generally, my research interests are at the intersection of energy, climate and society. How is society shaped by the way energy systems, and the way we extract resources? What does our dependency on resources and energy mean for political institutions, economic activity and sustainability? What actors and interests are influencing extraction and governance strategies? What are the constraints on managing resources and energy more democratically and sustainably?

In recent work I have looked at cities and urban sustainability strategies. This is what I will be focusing on for the Bergen Research Foundation-funded project "European cities as actors in ciimate and energy transformations" (2016-2019).

I am also engaged in building the Spaces of Climate and Energy Lab (SpaceLab), with Tarje Wanvik. See here: spacelab.b.uib.no
