Ageing in European Literature and Cultural History

Margery Vibe Skagen est maitre de conférences de littérature française au Département de langues et littératures étrangères de l’Université de Bergen (Norvège). D’une manière générale, ses recherches portent sur les relations entre la littérature et les savoirs, et particulièrement sur l’interface entre la littérature et la psychiatrie émergente au XIXème siècle. En tant que responsable du groupe de recherches Literature and Science de l’Université de Bergen, elle a codirigé plusieurs ouvrages collectifs consacrés à cette approche comparatiste de la littérature. Plus spécifiquement, son champ d’intérêt se situe au croisement de deux axes principaux : d’un côté, l’histoire intellectuelle et scientifique de l’Occident, et de l’autre côté, la représentation - dans les discours littéraire, médicale et psychologique - des états altérés de la conscience comme la mélancolie, l’ennui, l’hystérie, le rêve, la rêverie et l’ivresse. Depuis sa thèse de doctorat (Dr. art.) Mélancolie et goût de l’infini : Essai sur la mélancolie poétique dans les écrits de Charles Baudelaire, soutenue à l‘Université de Bergen en 2000, elle a publié de nombreux articles sur les écrits de Baudelaire. Plus récemment, elle s’est concentrée sur l’écriture de soi sous l’aspect du vieillissement, notamment chez Montaigne, Rousseau, Baudelaire, Annie Ernaux. Ses travaux actuels s’inscrivent dans le champ d’études interdisciplinaire sur le vieillissement : la construction du vieillir et la représentation du sujet vieillissant dans la littérature et l’histoire culturelle occidentale depuis le début de l’ère moderne.

 

Depuis 2016, Margery Vibe Skagen dirige un programme interdisciplinaire, soutenu par le Conseil de Recherches de Norvège, sur l’histoire culturelle du vieillissement : Historicizing the Ageing Self. Literature, Medicine, Psychology, Law. https://www.uib.no/en/project/ageing

 

Avec Daniel Chartier elle co-dirige un projet de collaboration et d’échanges à long terme, consacré à l’industrie du livre et soutenu par le DIKU (Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education).
